οὐδ᾽ ἀνίεσαν, “"did not remit"” (cp. “ἀνιέναι φυλακήν, ἄσκησιν, ἔχθραν”, etc.); not, “"did not send up"” (as in O. T. 1277, a different context). “κλαυθμός” was commonly associated with “κομμός” (planctus) and “γόος”. If Soph. had meant otherwise, he would have added another verse with ἀλλά.
