πλανᾶσθαι: cp. Cic. Rep. 1. 17 “speremus nostrum nomen volitare et vagari latissime.” τῶν refers to “ἔπη. ἀΐω” and like verbs can take a gen. either of the person, or (as 1187) of the thing, heard: though the latter is more often in the acc. (as 240).
