[686] The Attic form “ὀφείλω” in place of the Epic “ὀφέλλω” here and 698 (and in some MSS. in 688) seems to be a mark of late origin; see on 6.350. The verse exhibits the forbidden trochaic caesura in the fourth foot; van L. reads “ὀφείλετο”, omitting “ἐν”.
