[392] For ἂψ ἀναερχομένωι most edd. write “ἂψ ἄῤ” (Bentl.), “αὖτις” (Brandreth), or “ἄψ οἱ” (Barnes) “ἀνερχ”., the first on the analogy of the similar line, 6.187; but “ἄρα” has no sense here. For the hiatus cf. 9.167 “ἐπιόψομαι,” Od. 9.122 “καταΐσχεται,” 13.262 “ἀποαίνυμαι,” 17.381 “ἐπιοσσομένω. πυκινόν”, lit. dense, i.e. consisting of a large number, as in “πυκιναὶ φάλαγγες”, etc. This sense does not suit Od. 11.525, but that line is interpolated. εἷσαν ἄγοντες, took and set, “ἄγ.” being pleonastic. εἷσαν, from “ἵζω,” 1.311.
