[787] πὰρ δύναμιν, beyond his strength, cf. Od. 14.509παρὰ μοῖραν”, which seems to be the only other instance of this use of the preposition in H., common though it is in later Greek (H. G. § 191. 3). καὶ ἐσσύμενον is again absolute; see on 315.
