[273] Whether we read δεδεγμένα or “δεδεχμένα”, the use of the verb awaiting is unusual as applied to inanimate things. Schol. T mentions a variant “ἱππεῦσι”, with which “δεδεγμένα” was taken as from “δείκνυμι”, on the analogy of the Herodotean (not Epic) forms “ἔδεξα, ἐδέχθην” (but see 22.435).
