[104] οὐδ᾽ ἔπι χάρμη, there is no fight in them; cf. “οὐδ᾽ ἔπι φειδώ” Od. 14.92, Od. 16.315. Van L. objects that in the latter passages the sense is there is no modesty to stop them (as in “ἔπι δέος” 1.515), which does not suit here. Hence he reads “ἔνι” for “ἔπι”. There is another alternative, “ἐπὶ χάρμηι”, explained not with a view to fight: but this is unsatisfactory.
