[181] ἀλκ̂ης with μεμαῶτα, see note on 13.197. It is of course possible to join it with σχ́ησω, I will make to cease from his valour for fighting, etc.; but this is less probable in view of the order of the words. There remains also the possibility of regarding “ἀλκῆς” as belonging both to “μεμαῶτα” and “σχήσω”. The infin. after “ἔχειν” is unique, in the sense of making to cease from defending. Paley compares Eur. Or. 263 “σχήσω σε πηδᾶν δυστυχῆ πηδήματα” (“μή” or “μὴ οὐ” being the common constr. in Attic).
