[458] It will be seen that most MSS. read “πληθύϊ” (rather “πληθῦϊ”) “μέν᾽ ἀνδρῶν”. This may be defended from “ἰλῦος21.318, but has no claim to supplant the text which is regular (16.526, 24.108, Od. 5.231 etc.; and see particularly Od. 11.514-15 which are nearly identical with 458-59 here. The masc. “οὐδείς” occurs only in these two passages).
