[62] For the use of the aor. in similes compare 3.33-5; H. G. § 78. 2. For αἰγίλιπος see 9.15. “ ἀρθείς ”, poising himself aloft. The contracted form is doubtful; it recurs only Od. 5.393, and 17.724 (“αἴροντας”), q.v. Here Menrad proposes “περίμηκες ἀϝερθείς”, which is possibly right.
