[758] Cf. 375, ‘the running was forced from the start.’ The phrase recurs in Od. 8.121, where see M. and R., ‘“νύσσα” is exactly equivalent to our word the scratch, cp. “ϝύσσω”.’ But in 332, 338 it means the turning-post, which can hardly be the sense here, unless we suppose with Schol. T that the start of the foot-race is from the turning-point of the chariot-race.
