[27] ἄταλλε, gambolled, as Hes. Opp. 131(with “α_”), and Hymn. Merc. 400 (?); later poets use it occasionally in the sense foster, rear (Homeric “ἀτιτάλλω”), e.g. Ajax 559. ὑν᾽ αὐτοῦ, the gen. is causal, by reason of his coming, as 140, 14.285, Od. 19.114 etc. The weakly-attested variant “αὐτῶι” would be merely local.
