[122] ἐλδόμεναι with gen., eager for (to reach) the plain, as 14.276, 5.210, Od. 14.42. Cf. “ἐπειγόμενος Ἄρηος” etc., H. G. § 151 c. The variant “ἑλκόμεναι πεδίοιοdragging across the plain would be worth consideration, were it not for the restricted use of the mid. “ἕλκεσθαι”, which is used only of pulling out with the hand (one's own hair or sword).
