[311] Observe how the word τέκνα (and “τέκε”) is repeated so as to give a sort of human pathos to the passage. Cf. 12.170, Od. 16.217, and 8.248, 16.265, 17.133 (“τέκος”). νήπια especially emphasizes this association. Notice also the rimes, 311-3-5 and 312-4. This phenomenon, though not rare in H., is so sporadic that we have no ground for supposing it to have been in any case intentional, even if it was consciously observed.
