[220] θυηλάς: cf. Soph. El. 1423 where the word has the general sense of sacrifice, and so Aves 1520. Here it is generally explained, after Ar., to mean the “ἀπαρχαί”, the portion of meat given to the gods. Another interpretation is incense, but see note on 6.270.
