[344] For κακομηχάνου ὀκρυοέσσης Payne Knight rightly restored “κακομηχάνοο κρυοέσσης. ὀκρυόεσσα” is a vox nihili recurring only in 9.64, which admits of the same correction. The form was no doubt suggested by the totally unrelated “ὀκριόεις”, jagged. For “κρυόεις” in this metaphorical sense cf. 5.740, 9.2, and we may perhaps compare 19.325ῥιγεδανὴ Ἑλένη”.
