[306] κοτύλη, the acetabulum of Roman and modern anatomy; the socket, sufficiently like a shallow cup, by which the head of the femur is articulated to the pelvis. Compare the use of “κοτυληδών” of the cuttle-fish's suckers in Od. 5.433 (also of the acetabulum in Ar. Vesp. 1495).
