[197] προπάροιθεν may be taken either in a local or temporal sense; cf. 10.476. ἀποτρέψασκε seems more suited than “ἀποστρέψασκε” to express the idea turning him aside. The latter would rather mean ‘making him wheel round.’ ποτὶ πτόλιος, on the city side of him.
