[588] πτυόφιν, Ahrens needlessly reads “πτύοο”; the instrumental form here supplies the lost ablative, as elsewhere the locative. “πτύον” is the shovel by which the grain to be winnowed is tossed into the air (prob. = “ἀθηρηλοιγός” of Od. 11.128).
