[453] πᾶν ἦμαρ is here open to the same objection as “πανημερίοις” in 17.384; the fighting at the Skaian gates was neither ‘all day’ long nor ‘for all the rest of the day’ (1.472); the latter would ignore all the long fight over Patroklos, extending to the Greek camp. But this is not the place where we need expect the accuracy of a chronicler.
