[371] κυλλοποδίων, only here and 20.270, 21.331. It seems to be a hypocoristic or pet form of *“κύλλοπος”, little crook-foot, and means the same as “ἀμφιγυήεις” as explained on 1.607. For the custom of giving nicknames from bodily defects out of pure affection Schulze (Q. E. p. 308) aptly compares Horace Sat. i. 3. 43 ff.at pater ut gnati, sic nos debemus amici Si quod sit vitium non fastidire” , etc., where Varus is a Roman parallel.
