[388] ἐλεφηράμενος, cheating, a word which recurs in H. only in Od. 19.565, of the deceitful dreams which come through the gate of ivory (“ἐλέφας”). The only other instance of the word in Greek appears to be Hesiod Theog. 330ἔνθ᾽ ἄρ᾽ γ᾽ οἰκείων ἐλεφαίρετο φῦλ᾽ ἀνθρώπων” (of the Nemean lion), evidently in the sense ravaged. The origin of the word is unknown. Τυδεΐδην is of course governed by “ἐλεφ., Ἀθηναίην” by “λάθε”.
