[43] χρυσόν: the panoply, like other divine gear, to the very manes of the horses, is made of the noblest metal (see 5.729, etc.). γέντο, grasped, also 13.241, 18.476; a syncopated aor. apparently from a root “γεμ”, cf. Hesych. “ἀπόγεμε: ἄφελκε”, and “γέννου Κύπριοι καὶ λαβὲ καὶ κάθιζε” (“ὔγγεμος: συλλαβή”?). The old etymology from “ἑλεῖν” (“ϝελεῖν”? with “γ” for “ϝ” and “ν” as in Dor. “ἦνθε” = “ἦλθε”) is untenable.
