[488] For ἄν with aor. subj. as apodosis to a clause containing “εἰ” with opt. cf. 11.386, and the equivalent fut. indic. “ἐσσεῖται” with “ὅτε μὴ ἐμβάλοι,13.317 (so 9.388, and other instances in M. and T. § 499). Possibly “μυθήσομαι” is fut. indic., and “ὀνομήνω” is independent of “ἄν”, as in 1.262οὐδὲ ἴδωμαι. ἄν” here seems to enforce the contrast, see H. G. § 276 b. Virgil imitates the passage, G. ii. 42, Aen. vi. 625.
