[68] ἐπιβαλλόμενος, throwing himself upon the spoil, half in a physical, half in a metaphorical sense. For the gen. Ameis compares Od. 22.310Ὀδυσῆος ἐπεσσύμενος”. The word occurs in later Greek, e.g. Aristot. Pol. i. 9. 16τοῦ εὖ ζῆν ἐπιβ.”, with the purely mental sense ‘desire eagerly’; like 1.173ἐπέσσυται”. Cf. the use of “ἐφίεμαι”, desire.
