[59] Note the sequence of subjunctives in -“η”(“ι”)“σι, ὀτρύνηισι, ἐμπνεύσηισι, ἀποστρέψηισι”. This form is certainly not original in the non-thematic (sigmatic) aor. Hence Mulvany (C. R. x. 24) takes “ὀτρύνηισι” for pres., reads “ἐμπνείηισι”, and regards “ἀποστρέψηισι” as evidence that the late interpolation begins with 61, not 64. But the aor. seems to be required in both the former cases; and as the analogy of the thematic present must have affected the aor. before the end of the Epic period, it is probably better to accept the forms as they stand.
