[197] κάνρον, the animal on which the competitors at the Olympian games swore to “Ζεὺς Ὅρκιος” to observe the conditions (Paus. v. 24. 9, quoting this passage). Ἠέλιος is a party to the oath in 3.277; as seeing all things he was qualified to watch the observance of a promise.
