[94] ἔπι προέμεν Ar., “ἐπιπροέμεν” MSS. Cf. Od. 22.8ἐπ᾽ Ἀντινόωι ἰθύνετο”. Ameis prefers the double compound “ἐπιπροιέναι” which is used in the simple sense of ‘sending forth in a certain direction,’ 9.520, 17.708, 18.58, Od. 15.299. In these cases, however, the direction of sending is purely local, and the separate ἔπι better conveys the idea of hostility.
