[305] Athenaios (xiv. 632 F) quotes as an instance of a “στίχος μείουρος” (i.e. having a short syllable in place of a long one in either of the last two feet', “καλὴ Κασσιέπεια θεοῖς δέμας ἐοικυῖα”. This is commonly cited as a corruption of the present line; but there is nothing whatever to shew it. For all we know the line may come from some lost ‘Homeric’ poem.
