[673] τῶν πλεόνων Λυκίων: see H. G. § 264, ‘the article marks contrast, but not definition, or should take the lives of more Lykians instead. Here “οἱ πλέονες” does not mean “the greater number” but “a greater number,” in contrast to the person mentioned.’ But it must be admitted that Heyne's “ὅγε καί” or Nauck's “γ᾽ ἔτι” sound more Homeric; cf. 679, 10.506.
