[183] 183 “ἀθετεῖται: ἠιδέσθη γὰρ ἂν” (sc. Hermes) “τὴν θεόν”, Schol. T. “χρυσηλάκατος: καλλίτοξος: ἠλακάτη γὰρ τοξικὸς κάλαμος”, Hesych. This must be right, as the distaff is no attribute of Artemis. Pindar is rather fond of the epithet, applying it to Latona, Amphitrite, and the Nereids; he probably thought of the distaff. κελαδειν́η is explained by “πολὺν κέλαδον καὶ ἀυτήν9.547. So Schol. A “κυνηγετικῆς, παρὰ τὸν γιγνόμενον ἐν τοῖς κυνηγίοις κέλαδον, ἐστι θόρυβον”. The word is used as a subst. = “Αρτεμις,21.511.
