[183] 183 “ἀθετεῖται: ἠιδέσθη γὰρ ἂν” (sc. Hermes) “τὴν θεόν”, Schol. T. “χρυσηλάκατος: καλλίτοξος: ἠλακάτη γὰρ ὁ τοξικὸς κάλαμος”, Hesych. This must be right, as the distaff is no attribute of Artemis. Pindar is rather fond of the epithet, applying it to Latona, Amphitrite, and the Nereids; he probably thought of the distaff. κελαδειν́η is explained by “πολὺν κέλαδον καὶ ἀυτήν” 9.547. So Schol. A “κυνηγετικῆς, παρὰ τὸν γιγνόμενον ἐν τοῖς κυνηγίοις κέλαδον, ὅ ἐστι θόρυβον”. The word is used as a subst. = “Αρτεμις,” 21.511.
