[279] 279-80 = Od. 11.550-51: 280, cf. 2.768. The “ϝ” of “ϝέργα” is neglected in 279, and cannot easily be restored, as is the case also in 2.751, 11.703 (both late passages), 4.470, Od. 14.228, 344, Od. 17.313. Various conjectures have been proposed, Bentley “περὶ δ᾽ ἄλλα”, Heyne “Αἴας ὃς εἶδός τ᾽ ἠδὲ περὶ ἔργα τέτυκτο”, Brandreth “περὶ δ᾽ ἔπλετο ἔργα”, but none of these carries conviction, to say the least, and we have another piece of evidence for the lateness of the book.
