[669] θώην, evidently a definite fine in place of personal service. We have an instance of it in 23.297, where Echepolos gives Agamemnon a mare, “δῶῤ, ἵνα μή οἱ ἕποιθ᾽ ὑπὸ Ἴλιον ἠνεμόεσσαν”. The word recurs in 2.192.
