[184] Τεμέση (cp. “Temesaea aeraOv. Met.7. 207 ), of which the later name was “Τέμψα”, is put by Strabo, 1. 6. 6, 255, in Bruttium, and assigned to Ausonian colonists. But probably “Τεμέση” is here to be identified with “Τάμασος” or “Ταμασσός”, in the middle of the island of Cyprus, famous for extensive copper mines. The word copper (cuprum) is really = aes Cyprium.
