[263] ἠεροειδέα. See Buttm. Lexil. s. v. “ἀήρ”. The general meaning is ‘hazy,’ ‘dim:’ not so much in the sense of overcast with cloud or fog, as of that of far, faint, distance. Cp. Longfellow, Golden Legend, ‘The sea in all its vague immensity.’
