[315] εἰ δὴ μή μ᾽. With this reading, which has the best support in the MSS., there should be only a comma at δυσμενέοντες, but a colon at χαλκῷ: the sense being, ‘do not go on doing mischief to me,—unless you desire to slay me: and indeed I would rather die than &c.’ This gives a more natural train of thought than the usual reading εἰ δ᾽ ἤδη μ̓, with the chief stop at δυσμενέοντες.
