[242] “ἄιστος, ἄπυστος”, ‘he has passed out of sight, out of hearing.’ That is, that none knew aught of him as an eyewitness, and none had heard of him from one who had so seen him. Cp. Od.23. 40οὐκ ἴδον οὐ πυθόμην”. See also 283 infra, where “εἴπῃσι” gives the equivalent action to “ἰδεῖν”, and “ὄσσαν ἐκ Διός” to “πυθέσθαι”. So Eustath. ad loc.
