[111] ἀτέλεστον is an adv., explained in the phrase ἀνηνύστῳ ἐπὶ ἔργῳ ‘with no end to the business.’ For examples of this kind of epexegesis see on 1. 300. For ἐπί=‘with,’ ‘in presence of,’ cp. 11. 548 “τοιῷδ᾽ ἐπ᾽ ἀέθλῳ, 16. 99 τῷδ᾽ ἐπὶ θυμῷ”, also Il.4. 175 Il., 258.
