[11] τῆς δέ, ‘and all the day long, as she fared over the sea, her sails were filled,’ lit. ‘stretched tight.’

πανημερίης, which agrees with “τῆς” (“νηός”), belongs adverbially to the whole sentence, as in Il.17. 384“τοῖς δὲ πανημερίοις ἔριδος μέγα νεῖκος ὀρώρει”. This use is common with adjectives indicative of time, as Od.2. 434“παννυχίη μέν ῤ̔ ἥ γε καὶ ἠῶ πεῖρε κέλευθον”, Od.2. 357“ἑσπέριος . . αἱρήσομαι”, Od.9. 52“ἦλθον . . ἠέριοι”, Od.2. 262“χθιζὸς . . ἤλυθες”, Od.2. 104“ἠματίη ὑφαίνεσκεν”, Il.21. 37“ἐννύχιος προμολών”. Notice the dactylic rhythm of the line descriptive of the ship dancing over the waves.
