[109] To avoid the hiatus Fick reads “ἄλλαι ἔθ᾽ εὗδον”, supposing that the woman who presently speaks had got up before the rest. But this does not agree with οὔ πω παύετο in the next line. Apparently the work of grinding was done at or before dawn, so that the meal should be fresh and ready for the day's use, and the workers were allowed to sleep when their task was done.
