[415] There is much to be said for reading “ φίλος, οὐ γάρ μοι κτλ.” The sentence would then consist of a clause with “γάρ” with the main clause following it and introduced by “τῶ”: = ‘since you are the best of the Achaeans, therefore you should give me most.’ The only objection is that this form of sentence is confined to the Iliad (H. G. § 382. 2).
