[222] σῖτον ἔδοντες, ‘men,’ as distinguished from gods, who feed on ambrosia, and from wild beasts, and perhaps from ogres and the like who are uncivilized and plant no corn. Compare “ἀρούρης καρπὸν ἔδουσι Il.6. 143, “ὃς θνητός τ᾽ εἴη καὶ ἔδοι Δημήτερος ἀκτήν Il.13. 322.Cp. Od.9. 191.
