[761] οὐλοχύτας. It is wrong to render this, as Nitzsch, ‘ein Rauchopfer von heiliger Gerste,’ for the basket cannot represent an altar; though Schol. says, “ἀντὶ βωμοῦ καθιέρωσε τῷ κανέῳ τὰς κριθάς”. The barley was not burned, but was poured out from its basket as wine from its cup, and so was rather equivalent to the libation.
