[277] Ποσειδάωνι. Some have found the meaning of the whole prophecy in the reconciliation with Poseidon. This does not appear in the language of the passage. A sea-faring man in such a case would naturally turn to Poseidon as his especial patron. If the poet had meant to lay stress on such a reconciliation as is supposed, he would have told us that Poseidon was appeased by the sacrifice.
