[824] ἀμαυρόν, ‘dim.’ According to Curtius from “” privat. and root mar, seen in “μαρμαίρω, μαρίλη”. The proper form would be “ἀμαρϝός”, which by metathesis becomes “ἀμαϝρός” or “ἀμαυρός”. Other philologists regard the “” as euphonic and not privative, interpreting the epithet as describing the glimmering, wavering appearance of a dream.
