[326] ἁδινάων, an epithet to be understood in reference to the voices of the Sirens, ‘thick-coming,’ ‘with ever resounding song.’ So of the bleating of calves, 10. 413 “ἁδινὸν μυκώμεναι”, the cry of birds, 16. 216 “ἁδινώτερον τ᾽ οἰωνοί”, &c. But the application of the adj. to the Sirens themselves is not justified by these instances. The author probably had in his mind the passage Il.2. 469ἠΰτε μυιάων ἁδινάων κτλ.”, and may have understood the word there of the ceaseless humming of the flies.
