[196] ὡς ἀγαθόν, ‘How good a thing it is!’ This is better and simpler than to accent “ὥς. λιπέσθαι”, ‘should remain behind,’ in neuter sense, as Il.5. 154υἱὸν δ᾽ οὐ τέκετ᾽ ἄλλον ἐπὶ κτεάτεσσι λιπέσθαι”. Bothe gives the force of καὶ παῖδα by the paraphrase ‘beatum praedicat virum qui non solum opes reliquerit, sed etiam filium, qui illas tueatur et perniciem avertat.’
