[87] πευθόμεθα, in our idiom = ‘we have heard,’ is put in Greek in the present tense, as if the action were still continued. But compare “πεύθετο” Od.19. 411.Similarly the present “ἀκούω” is used, infra 193; Od.2. 118; 4. 94, 688; 15. 403.

ἧχι, ‘where;’ as “ὁππόθι” 89.

ὀλέθρῳ, as in Od.4. 489; 15. 268 [?], elsewhere with cognate accusative “ὄλεθρον” ( Od.1. 166; 9. 303), which La Roche would read here.
