[512] δνοπαλίξεις has caused some difficulty. The meaning evidently is that Ulysses must wear his own rags again next day. In the Iliad the verb “δνοπαλίζω” seems to mean ‘to knock aside’ or ‘against.’ So metaphorically a man may be said to knock about the clothes which he wears. The word is doubtless colloquial, like so much of the vocabulary of the Odyssey: cp. 14. 467., 15. 426, 445., 16. 63.
