[260] εἴ κ᾽ εἰῶμεν. The apodosis is not expressed, but is suggested by ἑστάμεν: ‘if we leave them to stand (they will).’ The form of the sentence is like 15. 80 “εἰ δ᾽ ἐθέλεις τραφθῆναι” (see the note): see also on 4. 388 (where the first of the two explanations given is the better one), and 17. 483.
